Find out about Fieldcraft can take the form of squadron weekend exercises, that would involve campcraft, field cooking, map reading, orienteering and initiative exercises. You'll learn what sort of clothing and equipment to use, and what sort of food you should be eating and why, and important things like calorific value. It could also be that you attend a week-long 'Green' camp at an RAF or Army camp, and do such activities as assault courses, camouflage & concealment, build shelters, learn field signals, radio procedures, patrol skills, shooting and take part in first aid scenarios. This may all sound a bit daunting at first, but with the training you receive from staff and cadet NCO's, you will quickly become more confident and skilled. As a Squadron, we participate in the annual Falklands Trophy competition against all the other squadrons in Essex. This tough weekend competition is held in commemoration of the Falklands campaign in 1982, whereby British Forces success removed the Argentine occupiers of this South Atlantic British colony, in extreme conditions. This physically and mentally demanding competition is held every year and involves shooting, first aid, initiative exercises, map-reading, assault course, missile race, speed marches and more. If you become involved in the Falklands Team, you'll find it hard-going in both the training and the actual competition, but very rewarding by the end of it! There is also the ultimate development course for Air Cadets - the Junior Leaders Course. Click Next at the bottom of this page or click here to read more about this fantastic development course that is spread over an eight month period, aimed at older cadets who hold a serious ambition to join HM Forces. Or how about the challenging Nijmegen Marches in Holland? Find out more here about what it involves.
